A radar reflector structure is formed from a number of reflector elements (2, 3, 4). In use the reflector elements (2, 3, 4) are arranged in a non-planar configuration. The reflector elements are formed as laminates including a rigid core (d, figure 4) and a thin flexible layer (a, figure 4). The thin flexible layer extends integrally across adjacent reflector elements and so provides a flexible hinge between the elements. In one example, a dual laminate structure is used formed from two single laminates bonded on their opposing faces. A separator plate is formed in one of the laminates and in use moves up out of the plane of its respective element about a hinge formed by the thin flexible layer. The reflector structure in this example can collapse concertina-wise for packaging, for example, in a canister used for deployment of a liferaft.
|
