The audible and/or visual alarm which may also inhibit starting of the engine is connected to an air compressor responsible for adjustment of tyre pressures, e.g. in accordance with road speed. Forced entry into the vehicle triggers the alarm and causes total deflation of one or more tyres, making it difficult to drive away. At a predetermined low value of tyre pressure, the regulator is immobilised so that immediate reflation is prevented effectively. ADVANTAGE - Pressure in deflated tyre(s) cannot be restored until theft alarm has been reset.
