A lubricant compsn. for finishing sewing threads of synthetic-, natural- or core yarns comprises: (a) 1-80 (5-50) wt.% of silicone oil of viscosity 500-100000mPa.s at 25 deg.C; (b) 1-50 (1-20) wt.% of vegetable-, animal-, montan-, mineral- and/or polyolefin wax, each wax having a m.pt. of at least 35 deg.C, (c) 0-20 (0-10) wt.% of a quat. ammonium cpd. of formula (I), diquaternary ammonium cpd. (II) and/or (12-22C) alkylimidazolinium salt. (NR1R3R3R4)+A- (I) where R1 and R2 = 1-22C alkyl; R3 = 12-22C alkyl; R4 = 1-4C alkyl; and A = salt forming anion; (II) is of formula (R1R3R3N-(CH2)x-NR1R3R3)2A- (II) x = 2 or 3, (d) 1-10 (1-6) wt.% of a fatty acid condensation product of a (2-22C fatty acid and an alkanolamine or polyamine in the form of a salt; (e) 0-5 wt.% of an amine oxide R1RN (O) (CH2CH2O)nR2 (III). In (III) R = 8-12C alk(en)yl; R1 = 1-4C alkyl; R2 = H or 1-4C alkyl; and n = 0-6; (f) 1-10 (1-5) wt.% of a non-ionic ethoxylated emulsifier based on a 12-22C fatty alcohol or a fatty acid or isotridecyl fatty acid ester, each etherified with 2-50 moles of added ethylene oxide; (g) 0-10 (0-5) wt.% of a non-ionic emulsifier based on ethoxylated triglycerides; and (h) 0-10 (0-5) wt.% of a cationic emulsifier based on a 12-22C fatty amine etherified with 2-30 moles of added ethylene oxide. A method for finishing the threads is also claimed, by applying the lubricant compsn. in a dyebath and simultaneously dyeing and lubricating in a single process step.
