A spinning head produces at least one single curtain of thermoplastic filaments which enter a cooling chamber where they are exposed on both sides to a current of cooling air. The cooling air is drawn off by a suction duct and is vented or recirculated. - After a clear section where uncooled prim. process air is entrained, the filament curtain enters a venturi shaped draw nozzle which has a feed for a gaseous sec. processing medium. The filaments are deposited on a conveyor to give a batt. The prim. processing air can be drawn in through perforated walls or supplied under pressure. The sec. process medium can be air or steam or a mixt. of both.
