The invention relates to an irrigation system and method for delivering a selected one of multiple solutions to a treatment site. The invention solves the technical problem of being able to positively verify the type of solution being administered. The invention solves these problems by providing a plurality of solution reservoirs (12) having a quantity of a solution (34), a selector valve (20) coupling a handpiece (14) to each of the solutions (34) and a pump (18) causing the solutions (34) to flow to the handpiece (14). Each solution (34) has a color which is distinguishable from the color of the other solutions (34) and the tubing (126) to the handpiece (14) is transparent thereby enabling the identity of the solution (34) being used to be verified. The irrigation system is a closed system with the pump (18) as well as a heater (19) for heating the solution (34) being situated outside of the flow path of the solution (34).
