PRODUCTION OF RESIN PARTICLE AND PRODUCTION OF ION EXCHANGE RESIN

PURPOSE:To obtain resin particles which can give an ion exchange resin which is weakly hydrophobic, not influenced by silanol groups and excellent in alkali resistance by mixing two specified methacrylate compounds in a specified weight ratio and subjecting the mixture to aqueous suspension polymerization. CONSTITUTION:A compound (A) of formula I (wherein R1, R2, R4 and R5 are each a 1-6C alkyl or substituted alkyl; R3 is an ester bond-free 1-20C organic group; and (n) is 0-6) is mixed with a compound (B) of formula II (wherein R6 and R7 are each 1-6C alkyl or substituted alkyl; R8 is an ester bond-free 1-20C organic group; and X is hydroxyl, halogen or glycidyl) are prepared in a mixing ratio of 5-99.8wt.% to 95-0.2wt.%, and the resulting mixture is subjected to aqueous suspension polymerization to obtain resin particles. These particles are sulfonated or carboxylated to obtain an ion exchange resin desirable for, e.g. chromatography.
