PURPOSE:To preclude an overrun by deciding which of a predicted movement signal and a tracking signal is used by a deviation deciding means. CONSTITUTION:A tracking means 3 predicts the movement of a subject according to several past focus detection results and generate the tracking signal regarding a predicted movement quantity. Further, a predicting means 11 generates a locus function indicating the movement locus of the subject determined with information regarding the movement of the subject and a focus detection signal or a predicted movement signal of the predicted movement of the subject. Then when a lens is driven, which of the tracking signal and predicted movement signal is used according to the result of the deviation deciding means 12. Therefore, the photographic lens can be driven according to the signal following up the movement of the main subject most at all times and the future driving of the photographic lens can be predicted from the locus function. Consequently, the driving direction of the lens is driven, the lens can be prevented from overrunning. |
