New catalysts comprise 20-95 wt.% matrix material (I), 1-60 wt.% of a Y zeolite (II), and 0.01-30 wt.% of a beta zeolite (III) in H form. (III) is synthesised in a fluoride medium (see FR 89/12556) and has a Si/Al atomic ratio of more than 2.5, an F content of 0.005-2 wt.% and a liq. N2 adsorption capacity of more than 0.08 cc/g. (measured at 19% of satd. vapour pressure at 77 deg.K). (I) pref. comprises one or more of Al2O3, SiO2, MgO, clay, Tio2 and ZrO2 or a combination of Al2O3 and B2O3. (II) is a USY zeolite in H form, opt. exchanged with rare earth metal cations. (III) has an Al/Si ratio of 5-1000, an F content of 0.01-1.5% and a N2 adsorption capacity of more than 0.1 cc/g. (III) is opt. exchanged with rare earth metal cations. USE/ADVANTAGE - The catalysts are used for cracking heavy oils, giving high yields of 3-4C hydrocarbons, esp. propylene and isobutane for prodn. of high-octane alkylate gasoline.
