The large container such as a bottle or can bank has a compacting chamber (17) mounted behind a filling opening and closable by a flap. The compacting chamber is mounted with its actuator and the flap in a housing (12) which is open at least on the front side. The rear side (15) is provided with a gap (22) which is set between the compacting chamber and container interior. There is a fastening for fastening the housing in a corresponding assembly opening of the container. The front side of the housing is closed in the assembled state by a wall part (9) which has the inlet opening (6). The housing can be provided with side flange-like edges by which it is fixed on the container. ADVANTAGE - Since the compacting chamber and actuator are held in their own housing, easier assembly and maintenance is possible.
