Alkyl 1,2,4-trisubstd. -7-hydroxy-5-oxo- 1,4,5,7-tetrahydrofuro (3,4-b)pyrimidine -3-carboxylates of formula (I) and their salts are new. R1 = Ph, naphthyl, thienyl, pyridyl, chromonyl, thiochromonyl or thiochromenyl, each opt. substd. by 1 or 2 F, Cl, Br, 1-6C alkyl, 1-6C alkoxy, 1-6C alkylthio, NO2, CN or fluoroalkyl or fluoroalkoxy each having up to 3C and 3F; R2 = n-, branched or cyclic alkyl having up to 12C and opt. interrupted by 1 or 2 O or S atoms and opt. substd. by F, Cl, Ph, CN, OH, NH2, mono- or di-(1-3C)alkylamino or N-benzylmethylamino; R3 = CN or 1-4C alkyl opt. interrupted by N-(1-3C alkyl) and/or O; R4 = n-, branched or cyclic alkyl having up to 6C and opt. interrupted by 1 or 2 O atoms and opt. substd. by F, Cl, OH, Ph, NH2, COOH or (1-4C) alkoxycarbonyl. In (I) pref. R1 = Ph opt. substd. by NO2, CL, 1-3C trifluoroalkyl or 1-3C alkyl; R2 = 1-4C alkyl opt. substd. by MeO or EtO; R3 = 1-3C alkyl; R4 = 1-4C alkyl.
