A mechanism for the selection and/or switching of optical conductors comprises two arms (11) in which the conductors (20) are retained rotating about their respective axes (12). An actuator (31) moves the arms towards each other about these axes such that the required combinations of optical fibres intersect on the centre axis or of multiple diameter sliding on its own axis (31).
