The X-ray diagnostic system has its detector (9) realised as a photomultiplier that produces a pulse sequence whose pulse rate depends on the intensity of the light falling on the photosensitive input face of the photomultiplier. At the output of the detector is a counter (15) that counts the pulses from the detector picture point by point and is connected via a converter stage (17) to the monitor (11) showing the picture.
