Universal motor with subdivided stack of stator laminations - having rotor position defined by U=section frames inserted between field windings into grooves

The stator lamination stack is divided into two pole yokes (11,12) and two flux guides (13,14) fitted into grooves (15,16) with longitudinal moulded plastics material frames (20',20") defining the position of the rotor (25). The field windings (18,19) are prefabricated on formers (18",19") for insertion into the beds of the grooves (15,16) on either side of the frames (20). Dovetail joints (21-24) secure the coil formers (18",19") to the frames. Carbon brush holders can be assembled into direct contact with the coils (18',19'). ADVANTAGE - Dimensions, material requirements and assembly costs reduced in comparison with those of conventional motors of same rating.
