The down thrusting vice has two opposite facing jaws which operate on the shearing principle, achieved by locking bolts in conjunction with oblique slots in the side of the jaws. The jaws (11,11a) are on a tensioning bar (1), and springs (13,17) hold them in the rest position in which their opposite faces are not parallel but inclined away from each other, forming a wedge shaped opening. A locking bolt (27) passes through the oblique slot (21) of one jaw and through a long slot (3) in the tensioning bar, holding the jaw in a certain position. Another locking bolt (28) passes through the oblique slot of the other jaw and through a hole (4) in the tensioning bar. When one object is placed between the jaws and the tensioning bar is tightened, it is not only hold firm but also pressed firmly down on the table. USE/ADVANTAGE - A flat large work table on which articles of different mmaterials and sizes can be hold down surrounds the vice.
