PRODUCTION OF LONG FIBER-REINFORCED THERMOPLASTIC POLYESTER RESIN, AND ITS MOLDED PRODUCT

PURPOSE:To improve the impregnation through and adhesion to a reinforcing fibrous material and enhance mechanical strengths by using a combination of a thermoplastic polyester resin with an epoxy resin in producing a long fiber-reinforced polyester rein by pultrusion molding. CONSTITUTION:In producing a long fiber-reinforced polyester resin contg. 5-80wt.% (based on the total reinforced resin) reinforcing fiber aligned virtually in parallel by impregnating a molten thermoplastic polyester resin through a running, continuous fiber bundle, an epoxy resin in an amt. of 0.05-10 pts.wt. based on 100 pts.wt. the polyester resin is used in such a way that the bundle is first impregnated with the epoxy resin and then with the polyester resin or that the bundle is impregnated with a molten mixture of the two resins.
