A pump has one or more spindles (14) driven by an electric motor and having the internal section of a hollow pump housing. The spindle (14) passes axially through a rotor made from laminae or discs (24) and a stator (34) of the electric motor. The radial internal edges (28) of the rotor discs form a sealed housing for the spindle (s) (14) and are sprayed with a coating (27) made from bearing material. ADVANTAGE - A pump which is of simpler construction and considerably shorter length than conventional models.
