The main cutter drum body (7) with cutter assemblies is mounted on rotating arbor (8). This is supported by rolling bearings (11) on the hollow support arm (10) on each side of cutter arm (2). Torque transmission from the cutter drive is via a central drive shaft (6) engaging shaft coupling (18) formed integrally or connected with arbor (8). The side drum body (14) slides axially in the arbour, with torque transmitted by two axial slots (16) engaging webs (15) integral with the arbor. The telescopic side drum body is extended or retracted by admission of oil pressure to the annulus (20, 21) on either side of piston (19), which is connected to the side drum body by a rolling bearing (13).
