In a cell eg. a round Ni-Cd cell2 comprising a sealed housing including two parts acting as terminals of the cell, one of the parts being provided with pressure relief device eg. a pressure relief valve, a contact cap 1 is mounted on the housing which leaves an intermediate space 3 between itself and the housing into which the housing can expand when the internal pressure becomes excessive. In a stack bulging of the housing can take place without failure of the electrical contacts. The fact that the housing walls have the possibility of expanding guarantees proper functioning in the response of the pressure relief devices, which are preferably located on the housing parts contained by the contact caps. The contact cap thus reduces the risk of cell explosions. The mechanical and electrical connection is maintained. <IMAGE> |
