<p>An improved coupling component (10) includes an annular tube (18) which is inflatable to move friction shoe assemblies (14) into engagement with another component of a coupling, elastomeric material (88) is connected with the tube (18) and is moulded around torque transmitting elements (40,42), such as pins, connected to the backing plate (36) of the friction shoe assemblies (14). To construct the component (10), the as yet unvulcanised tube (18) and mounting material (88), together with the friction shoe assemblies (14), are placed in a mould (48), the tube (18) is then expanded by fluid pressure, and heated so that the elastic material (88) is moulded around the torque transmitting elements (40,42) connected to the friction shoe assemblies (14). <IMAGE></p> |
