The present invention provides a method for controlling a seek movement by a magnetic head (28) to a selected track (19 to 24) on a rotating disk (12) of a hard disk drive, in which a servo system controls the seek movement in accordance with a comparison of actual head velocities and demand velocities of a stored velocity demand profile, characterised by assigning tracks on the disk to a plurality of concentric zones (110 to 118) on the disk, determining for each of the zones an adjustment value for use in the comparison for offsetting differences occurring between selected demand velocities and the corresponding actual head velocities, storing the adjustment values, and employing the adjustment values in the comparisons made during a seek movement. <IMAGE>
