The invention concerns a tool for folding a plane carton blank 3 to form a tray. The tool comprises a fixed lower part 1 with a plane top 1a and side surfaces 1b which, with the top 1a, form straight edges 1c, an upper part 2 which can be moved towards and away from the lower part 1, with an approximately plane underside 2a and with tool parts 2b which are connected rotatably to the upper part 2 by means of rotating elements 4. In the tool's folding position, the underside 2a presses the blank 3 against the said top 1a and the tool parts 2 press the carton blank 3 against the said side surfaces 1b, so that the blank 3 is folded along the said edges 1c. The said rotating elements 4 comprise, on the one hand, a shell part 4a joined to the upper part 2 or to a rotatable tool part 2b and, on the other hand, an element part 4b joined to the said tool part 2b or to the upper part 2. The shell part 4a has two mutually parallel cylindrical surfaces 4a1, 4a2 which between them define a slit 4c. The element part 4b has a cylindrical projection 4b1 designed to slide into the slit 4c. The slit 4c and the projection 4b1 are arranged such that the rotational movement between the tool part 2b and the upper part 2, which occurs upon the said sliding, has an axis of rotation 5 which, in the tool's folding position, at least approximately coincides with an edge line 1c of the lower part 1 of the tool. <IMAGE> |
