The invention refers to an inking system with an impression cylinder and an inking roller. For the solution of the problem to further develop an inking system of that kind such that the printing quality is improved, the inking roller has a smooth sleeve surface, preferably made of rubber or synthetic material. During ink application, the inking roller is adjustable to the impression cylinder during ink application without forming a gap and preferably under pressure. The circumferential speed of the inking roller is variable with respect to the one of the impression cylinder.
