PURPOSE:To obtain the inexpensive optical branching device with simple constitution by providing optical stimulating type amplifying means in respective optical transmission lines after branching and providing means for superposing the stimulating light from a stimulating light source on the signal light transmitted in the optical transmission lines before the branching. CONSTITUTION:The Er-doped optical fiber amplifiers 16-1 to 16-n are used as the optical amplifiers. The Er-doped optical fiber amplifiers are simple in the constitution thereof and have the good connectability to the optical fibers. The amplifiers 16-1 to 16-n are respectively interposed and connected to the optical fibers 12-1 to 12-n on the output side of an optical fiber fusing type star coupler 13. The stimulating light of the amplifiers 16-1 to 16-n is thereby superposed on the input side of the fiber fusing type star coupler 13 without requiring an extremely high output and, therefore, just one stimulating light source 15 is necessary.
