PURPOSE:To prevent a battery from breakdown by installing an isolating member between a spiral electrode and a sealant, hindering a molten separator from moving to a safety valve, supplying only the gas to the safety valve, and thereby ensuring normal valve operation. CONSTITUTION:A spiral electrode 1 is accommodated in an armor can 2, and its opening is blocked by a sealing member 3, which is fitted with a safety valve. A valve plate 9 is pushed up with raised internal pressure of a battery concerned, and a hole 12 is opened, and a spring 10 presses this valve plate 9 to the hole 12 at normal times. An isolating member 4 admits passage of the gas generated by this spiral electrode 1 and checks passage of the molten resin of separator 7 perfectly. The isolating member 4 is made for ex. of graphite cloth of carbon fiber. In the case a porous inorganic substance is used, it is recommended to lessen its porosity below 98% so as to decrease the permeability for the molten resin of separator 7. This constitution precludes effectively the sealed type battery from breakdown. |
