The invention relates to lasers. In order to make a laser tunable by a simple means, it is proposed, according to the invention, to produce one of the mirrors (M1) of the laser cavity with selective reflectivity properties variable along the surface of the mirror, whilst providing mechanical means for moving the mirror in front of the axis of the beam. The laser will be tuned to the wavelength for which the mirror surface which it encounters has a reflectivity peak. The variation in position of the reflectivity peak can be obtained by varying the thicknesses of the thin films forming the mirror, since the wavelength corresponding to the peak is directly linked to the thicknesses of these layers (films). The thickness variation is obtained preferably by epitaxial deposition with temperature gradients in the substrate. <IMAGE>
