The basket (2) is moved vertically within the vat (3) by an electric motor (24) driving an endless thread screw (28), linked (29) to a lever (30) which p9vots about a fulcrum (32) on an external pillar (33) of the housing (25). The free end (34) of the lever pushes on the inside of a U-shaped movable link (7) which can slide into and out of the vat, lowering and raising the basket (2). The same movement can be effected manually by raising a handle (1) coupled to the movable link (7), from a vertical to a horizontal position. On reversal of the motor (24), the weight of the basket (2) returns the movable link (7) to its original position and lowers the handle (1).
