The arrangement supplies a two-pole load (5) with a load-independent d.c. adjustable in stages. A group of switchable sources (6) is connected to the load. Each source contains a load-independent d.c. source (7) with a short circuit switch (8) which is closed when the source is switched off. Each source has a series decoupling diode (9). The source circuits, including diodes, are connected in parallel with the load. Each source has a fixed associated current value. The switches are switched on and off in a combination giving the closest match to the current to be applied to the load. USE/ADVANTAGE - Use of common current source types considerably reduces costs of development and implementation.
