The motor-operated refuse collection vehicle for refuse sacks has a pick-up device (24) for automatically picking up refuse sacks (5) and transporting same into the tip unit (16). The pick-up device has a conveyor belt (26) running from the base to the tip unit. At the end of the belt pointing towards the ground there are two rotary driven pick-up brushes (30,30'). The pick up device (24) can swivel from a pick up position into a driving position where in the pick up position it is supported on the ground by at least one roller (32).
