The surgical corset has a back part (1) made in the form of a rigid shell (1), and a front part (2) which fits around the upper end and lower parts of the torso. The front part (2) has side pieces by which it is attached to the back part (1). The middle region of the back part (1) is so shaped that it presses against the spinal column in order to correct any deformity. The back part (1) outside the middle region is so shaped that it does not exert any pressure on the vertebrae.
