The grinding machine machines flat workpieces on their underside as they are transported through the machine by a number of upper and lower rollers (42,44,46). Two belt (22) grinding units (18,20) are mounted underneath the transport rollers. The grinding belts pass round guide rollers (24,28). The grinding units are offset from each other transversely to the feed direction, with each grinding belt and its assocaited rollers extending over one half of the width of the transport track formed by the rollers.
