The single-use inlay sucks up moisture from articles of clothing, e.g. incontinence pants or nappies or bed-ridden patient bedding. The dampness measuring sensor is built-in. The signalling unit is connectable to the sensor so that it can be used again. The measuring arrangement can be controlled by a microprocessor, the signalling unit contg. a microcomputer controlled sound generator for an acoustic alarm to call the person on duty or watching over. The signalling and measuring arrangement can include a switch or push-button bridging the electrical contacts for function testing. The sensor can be formed by two metal foils sandwiching a layer of soluable substances electrically insulating the foils from each other. The insulation layer can be of an electrolytic substance.
