Medium based on a mixt. of polar cpds. with positive dielectric anisotropy contains 1-(4-chloro-3-fluoro or 3,4-difluoro-phenyl)-4-(4-alkyl -trans-cyclohexyl)-trans-cyclohexane cpd(s). of formula (I). In (I), Hal = F or Cl; R = 1-7C alkyl, oxaalkyl, fluoroalkyl or alkenyl. (I) are either known cpds. or can be prepd. by methods analogous to those for known cpds.
