PURPOSE:To obtain the material in which carbon powder and carbon fiber are excellently dispersed by impregnating the carbon fiber with a dispersion of a specified thermosetting resin and carbon powder in furfural or furfuryl alcohol, press-forming the fiber and burning the formed body. CONSTITUTION:The carbon fiber impregnated with a precursor of the base material consisting of carbon powder contg. >=50wt.% crude coke powder and a thermosetting resin is formed, and the formed body is burned to produce the carbon fiber-reinforced carbon material. In this case, a thermosetting resin selected from the phenolic resin having fluidity or tackiness at ordinary temp., furan resin or their mixture is dissolved in furfural, furfuryl alcohol or their mixture as the solvent, and the carbon fiber heat-treated at >=500 deg.C is impregnated with a dispersion of the soln. and carbon powder. The solvent is volatilized to produce the carbon fiber contg. the precursor of the base material, and the fiber is formed under pressure and burned to obtain the desired carbon material. |
