PURPOSE:To provide a colored ceramic sintered body having sufficiently high translucency as an ornamental member by incorporating a specified amt. of the oxide of Co or Ni into the material consisting essentially of spinel. CONSTITUTION:Cubic spinel exhibiting high translucency when densely sintered is used as the base material, and the cubic cobalt or nickel oxide is used as the colorant. Consequently, a translucent spinel sintered body colored green and having >=10% linear transmissivity at 0.8mu wavelength when a specularly polished sample having 2mm thickness is used is obtained. For example, the oxide of Co or Ni or an inorg. salt capable of forming the oxide on heating or an alkoxide is added by 0.002-1wt.% expressed in terms of the oxide to the spinel powder having >=99% purity and >=5m<2>/g specific surface (BET value) and mixed. The mixed powder is press-molded and then sintered at 1500-1750 deg.C. |
