PURPOSE:To immobilize anaerobic bacteria with nearly no lowering of the activity of anaerobic bacteria or an anaerobic bacteria group by immobilizing anaerobic bacteria on a polymer material containing a reducing agent under an anaerobic atmosphere. CONSTITUTION:Anaerobic bacteria 38 to be immobilized are charged to a her metically closed type reaction tank 12 and a reducing agent is added to a poly mer material to immobilize anaerobic bacteria under an anaerobic atmosphere. Therefore, anaerobic bacteria are held under a low oxygen concn. and low redox potential condition in an immobilizing process and the deactivation of anaerobic bacteria can be suppressed low.
