PURPOSE:To facilitate the contact with gas and to enhance gas adsorbing and desorbing capacity by forming a globular particle for adsorbing gas having a mean particle diameter of 0.2 mm or less by baking a thermosetting resin. CONSTITUTION:A novolac resin and aldehydes are made to react in an acidic medium in the presence of an emulsion stabilizer to prepare a globular thermo setting phenol resin having a mean particle diameter of about 0.2 mm or less. This globular phenol resin particle is baked at about 1,500 deg.C or lower in vacuo of about 20 Torr or less, pref., about 1 Torr or more to prepare a globular carbon particle for adsorbing gas having a mean particle diameter of 0.2 mm or less, pref., about 0.05 - 0.005 mm and specific gravity of about 1.3 - 1.5. This carbon particle is extremely easy in the contact with gas as compared with conventional carbide and enhanced in adsorbing capacity and desorbing capacity. |
