A liquid crystalline medium consists essentially of (a) 5-65 wt.% of a constituent A consisting of two or more compounds of group A, (b) 20-95 wt.% of a constituent B consisting of two or more compounds of group B, and (c) 0-40 wt.% of a constituent C consisting of one or more compounds with a clarification temperature above 170 DEG C. R, X and Y independently have the following meanings: R in each case stands for alkyl, oxalkyl, halogenalkyl or alkenyl with up to 7 carbon atoms, X stands for F, Cl, CHF2, CF3, OCHF2 or OCF3 and Y stands for H, F or Cl.
