Hydraulic clamping nut for rotating tool - has interconnected cylinders for clamping pistons

A rotating tool (4) is mounted on a shaft and is secured by the hydraulic clamping nut (1). The nut (1) has three hydraulic pistons (2) arranged in a circle which is concentric with the shaft axis, and with the axis of each piston (6) being parallel to the shaft axis. Each piston (2) abuts against a flange (3) which abuts against the tool (4). The piston (2) is acted on by hydraulic pressure generated by a second smaller piston (6) which is pressed downwards by a screw. The cylinders (7) of the smaller pistons (6) are interconnected so that when one of the screws (5) is adjusted the same pressure is exerted on all three pistons to produce a symmetrical distribution of the clamping force on the flange (3).
