<p>Methods are disclosed for the synthesis of cyclitols from substituted arene diols which are produced by the microbial oxidation of substituted benzenes. The disclosed methods allow control of relative stereospecificity upon addition of each functional group to the six-membered ring. Cyclitols produced by such methods are also disclosed.</p> |
