The invention concerns a process for purifying exhaust gases of particles, in particular for removing soot particles from exhaust gases produced by air-compression-type internal-combustion engines. The following steps make it possible, in a simple way, not only to precipitate soot particles but also to destroy them completely: the exhaust gases are passed through an ionization channel (7) in which negative ions are produced by an electric field running perpendicular to the direction of gas flow; the stream of gas is deflected to pass it back in the opposite direction; the gases are passed through a multiplicity of precipitation channels (6a) disposed substantially parallel to the ionization channel (7), the particles being deposited on the walls of the channels by another electric field and allowed to burn. The invention also concerns a device for carrying out the process. |
