The sheet-metal external skin section is for motor vehicles, having on the inside of the metal (1) a structure comprising two layers of plastics (3,4). The layers form an internal structure (2), are held apart by distance-pieces (5) forming chambers (8) between them. The layers bear against each other at the edge (6) of the section, where the metal is bent round over them. The chambers can be filled with sound-dampening material, while some at least of the distance pieces can be formed by inserts.
