The subject of the present invention is motor vehicle assisted hydraulic steering including, interposed between the steering wheel (1) and the rack pinion (3), a rotary valve (6) for controlling a steering assistance thrust cylinder (5), this valve including a rotary element (12) secured to the rack pinion (3) and a rotary element (11) connected to the steering wheel (1) and an axial torsion bar (14), one end of which is secured to the rack pinion (3), whereas the other is secured to the rotary element (11), the steering furthermore including modifiable means for short-circuiting the assistance thrust cylinder (5). According to the invention, the short-circuiting means are sensitive to the load on the ground and interposed between the rotary element (11) of the assistance valve (6) and the steering wheel (1). <IMAGE>
