<p>An apparatus (10) is disclosed for monitoring the movement and force production of the lumbar spine during flexion and extension in each of several sagittal-frontal planes of the body, as well as during movement in the transverse (twisting) plane. The apparatus includes a rotatable platform (27) upon which the patient is adapted to stand, and the platform (27) is pivotable about a vertical axis so that the platform (27) may be pivoted to a selected angle and locked in position. A pelvic stabilization belt (30) is mounted to the platform (27), and a frame member (40) is provided for rotation about a horizontal axis which is adapted to pass through the lumbro-sacral juction of the patient. The frame member (40) includes an upper body yoke (47) which is mounted for rotation about a generally vertical axis which is perpendicular to the horizontal axis. A first upper body engaging member (100) and a second upper body engaging member (102) are adapted to be mounted to the yoke (47), and a control system is provided whereby the apparatus (10) may be operated in a flexion/extension mode, or in a twisting mode, and with the foot platform (27) in a selected angular position.</p> |
