A de-aerating device, particularly for thixotropic material, has a screw (2) running in a housing (1). The screw (2) feeds the material against the end (7) of the housing where it is forced into a return channel (3) with a smaller cross-section. Material can be removed through an outlet (6). The return channel (3) can have sieve-like exits (5) at the return end. USE/ADVANTAGE - The device removes entrained air from viscous, thixotropic materials.
