The coupling system uses collector rails for each AC phase, fitting through aligned pairs of glands in the adjacent sides of the two HV switches (1,'2'). The orojecting collector rail ends (12) are joined by a pin and socket connection (6,7) between the two switches (1,'2') with an outer binder (8) around the connection point. The outer binder (8) has an inwards tapering conical inside face at either end matching the conical outer surface (42) of each gland. The binder (8) is pref. made of silicon rubber.
