The mechanism has push-button keys; one each for forward and reverse feeds. The keys are coupled to actuator bars having working surfaces used to provide an interlocking action in association with a pivoted lever. One end of the arm has an angled surface which locates against the tip of the actuator bars. When the bar is pressed the lever is tilted at the rear edge. The two keys are used to provide interlocking together with two mechanisms. The mechanisms can be alternatively used in separate modes to control the head plate and the tape driVes.
