Removing metal carbonyl cpds. from gases - by washing with aq. soln. of salt of hypochlorous acid

Metal carbonyl cpds. are removed from gases by washing the gases with an aq. soln. of a salt of hypochlorous acid. A 0.1-10 wt.% soln. of the hyopchlorite, esp. of an alkali metal, is used. The gas is washed in countercurrent in a plate column. USE- Gases contg. metal carbonyls form in syntheses such as acrylic acid from acetylene, CO and water. Appln. is esp. removal of carbonyl cpds. of metals of the Fe gp., e.g. Ni carbonyl (partic.), Fe carbonyl, Co carbonyl, Fe H carbonyl or Co H carbonyl.
