CONTROL SYSTEM FOR OPERATING A SHIP'S MOTIVE INSTALLATION

The invention relates to a control system for operating a ship's motive installation (1, 2). An engine (3) drives a propeller shaft (7) via gearing (4) with adjustable clutches (67, 69) for movement forward and astern. Control and sensor devices (53, 54) are fitted, by means of which the engine speed and the degree of slip of the clutches can be altered. The revolutions of the propeller shaft can be adjusted via a control lever (13, 14) at a control post (9). Control electronics (21) define the momentary operating condition by selected freely from among three possible ones. The operating condition set is defined dependently upon the operating parameters to be maintained for the engine (3) and/or the gearing (4). The control system is especially suitable for use in multi-engine motive installations aboard a ship.
