<p>PURPOSE: To electrostatically filter very superfine particulate material with low operating voltage by forming a mesh made by a flexible conductive member to be electrically insulated in a suction passage for air containing particulate matter, and applying alternating potential. CONSTITUTION: A wire mesh 20 comprises two sets of fine conductive filaments or wires, wherein a first set of conductive wires 22 are extended in the horizontal direction, and a second set of conductive wires 24 are extended in the vertical direction. The individual wires of the respective sets are electrically insulated, and each wire includes a copper wire which has a diameter of about 0.0508mm and is coated with a thin insulating material. The conductor 22 is conductively connected at one end to a common bus bar 26 by a gold or nickel contact, and the conductive wire 24 is conductively connected at one end to a bus bar 28. An a.c. voltage source 30 is put in the connecting state between the bus bars 26, 28, and when a rectangular wave having a positive or negative peak voltage of about 9V is applied to the bus bar 28, the generated electric field attracts the contaminated atmospheric ions which are carried by an air current passed through the mesh and the other very fine particles and holds the same.</p> |
