To reduce the adhesion and friction force of snow on ice, which act on the outer skin (13) of an icebreaker ship's hull, esp. friction forces when the ship is locked in ice, heat sources available in the ship are used to keep warm any critical outer skin zones. Any available energy zones may be used, to generate high-frequency vibrations. The skin may have outlets (21), for a mixture of outside water and heat exhaust gases.
